Trailer Repair Mechanic – Intermodal(Harvey, IL)

Pay Rates:

Apprentice = $20-$23

Journeyman B = $24

Journeyman A = $26

Journeyman A Lead = $28-$30

Summary: Trailer Repair Mechanics are charged with repairing containers, trailers, and chassis. Repair & replacement work includes but is not limited to, containers, lights, tires, landing legs, brakes, and framework.

Job Requirements:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must comply with established safety rules, policies, and procedures, including wearing required safety equipment
  • Open availability (24/7/365)
  • Minimum of 1-year of mechanic experience
  • Willingness to work in varying weather conditions
  • Trailer Mechanic must have basic set of hand tools
  • Ability to lift more than 50lbs
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background screen, physical and drug screen

Responsibilities:

  • The ability to diagnose failures and make repairs on mechanical, electrical, or other various systems on a trailer.
  • Suspension repair Tank service and repair Knowledge of air brake systems and repairs.
  • Conducts routine/scheduled maintenance on railroad leased/owned containers and chassis.
  • Repairs equipment in accordance with railroad, IEP, manufacturer & FMCSA guidelines.
  • Documents repairs according to an established reporting system, verbally and in writing.
  • Repairs tires, brakes, lights, landing leg and framework.
  • Performs light welding when required.

Physical Demands:

  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent standing, walking, balancing while walking on elevated catwalks, bending, and grasping, with assistance, occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to fit through a tank trailer manhole.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces.
