Description

Position Title: CDL Driver

Reports to: Yard Foreman and/or Asst. Yard Foreman

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Hours: Minimum of Thirty Hours. The Hours are flexible to the needs of Whites Lumber, Inc. The employee must be able to work weekends as needed.


GENERAL SUMMARY: A Driver will load and unload materials, store material in warehouse and yard, deliver merchandise to customers, maintain good housekeeping in yard, warehouse, and vehicles.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


  • Adherence to all safety regulations.
  • Being familiar with the grades, dimensions, and species of lumber in stock, and other merchandise stored in the yard or warehouse.Β 
  • Load and deliver merchandise safely and efficiently to customers.

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Perform and document pre and post daily inspections on vehicles as required by OSHA and the Department of Transportation
  • Complete Driver inspection reports.
  • Operate/Drive vehicle in a safe and legal manner.
  • Maintain maximum security for merchandise loaded on the vehicle.
  • Keep vehicle in a neat and orderly fashion, clean interior at the end of each day.
  • Accurately assemble and properly load merchandise on ones truck for delivery.
  • Operate vehicle in a safe and efficient manner at all times.
  • Maintain a neat and clean appearance.
  • Attend all meetings as requested.
  • Use proper material handling techniques to reduce damage to goods and personal injury.
  • Be able to tolerate and function in diverse seasonal climate changes.
  • Attend/Participate in in-service training and Safety meetings.
  • Report any safety issues to immediate supervisor.
  • Store materials in their proper location.
  • Load vehicles with the appropriate material as per the quantities listed on order.
  • Convert orders to Sales.
  • Collect money on all C.O.D. orders, obtain authorization to leave material at site for non -collectible COD’s.
  • Notify sales person of any items not shipped due to inventory shortages.
  • Ensure quantities and products to be delivered match delivery order.
  • Perform duties of yard worker as needed including waiting on customers, stock merchandise, keep yard clean by picking up trash, bands, lumber covers, and keep materials/products in a neat and orderly fashion.
  • Communicate any customer issues to Management immediately.
  • Assume other duties as workload and need dictate.


Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or G.E.D. The individual must be able to lift at least One Hundred Twenty-Five Pounds. To operate CDL class vehicle individual must possess a valid CDL Class B License recognized by the State of New York. The employee must be able to tolerate and function in diverse seasonal climate changes.

  • Outdoors, the employee will be subjected to the various climate changes during the course of a year.
