Full-time City employees will receive preference in the following order: major division first, then department, then all other full-time City employees. Part-time/year-round City employees will receive preference next. JOB SUMMARY
This job is located in various departments throughout the City of Oklahoma City. This posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Streets and Drainage Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department within the City of Oklahoma City and is under the direction of an immediate supervisor. However, an eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies, including vacancies in other departments, per provisions of the AFSCME collective bargaining agreement. Heavy Truck Driver is a licensed, heavy-equipment driver primarily responsible for operating heavy trucks for construction, transportation, paving, maintenance, and/or repair projects. The development of specialized skills, knowledge, and abilities may be acquired through experience on the job. Incumbents must successfully complete departmental training programs designed to enhance basic equipment operation, maintenance, and safety skills. Essential job functions include: driving and/or operating heavy trucks, such as hydraulic lift trucks, leaf trucks, dump trucks, tandem trucks, with related attachments, including snow plows, trailers, winches, etc.; transporting materials to work, storage, or disposal sites according to daily work assignments; completing work assignments according to instructions from a supervisor; following established safety rules and regulations; reporting accidents, equipment break-downs, and/or unsafe conditions to a supervisor as required; performing routine preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment; completing routine forms and reports; and performing related duties as required and assigned. The incumbent may work independently in delivering materials and equipment or in conjunction with other workers and equipment while on construction or maintenance projects. Due to equipment malfunctions, limited worker availability, or adverse weather conditions, a Heavy Truck Driver may be expected to perform crew or maintenance-type tasks. Work instructions are received verbally and in writing, with work reviewed through inspection and written reports.

Honorably discharged veterans of the United States Active Duty Armed Forces, National Guard, and Reserve Forces who are not currently employed full-time by the City of Oklahoma City and who meet the qualifications for the position shall be given preference. WORKING CONDITIONS
Note: Typical City employee working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, working hours vary (may require work to begin before 8:00 a.m. and/or end beyond 5:00 p.m., and/or may require work on weekends and holidays), and are subject to change, based on the duties and location of the position and the business needs of the assigned work unit/department.

Note: An eligibility list will be established from this posting consisting of applicants who receive a score of 70 percent or better. If the position accepted is cyber security sensitive, internal and external applicants will be subject to a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Interstate Identification Index (III) Fingerprint Background check. Additionally, employees in this job classification must complete Level 4 Security Awareness Training and pass an online certification test.
