DSHS FTAA – Truck Driver 2
We are hiring a Truck Driver 2 in Lakewood, WA within the Finance, Technology, and Analytics Administration (FTAA) – Maintenance and Operations Division (MOD). In this role, you will operate medium to large trucks, buses, and specialized vehicles ranging from 28,000 GVW to 60,000 GCW to safely transport passengers, equipment, and essential supplies. Your work includes loading and unloading U.S. Mail, materials, and equipment, as well as handling confidential and non-confidential records for secure disposal. This position is vital to ensuring the smooth and efficient movement of goods, services, and people that support daily operations across Western State Hospital and related facilities.

Some of what you'll do:

  • Drive a variety of large vehicles (flatbeds, shuttles, box trucks, dump trucks, buses, delivery vans) to transport personnel, residents, visitors, and materials.
  • Pick up and deliver food, commissary items, building materials, furniture, clothing, chemicals, freight, mail, and other supplies on and off campus.
  • Transport laundry, equipment, packages, and other materials to designated locations across the facility.
  • Operate hand dollies, pallet jacks, hydraulic lifts, forklifts, CDL Class B equipment, and snow/ice removal equipment to support facility operations.
  • Collect and properly dispose of refuse, debris, solid waste, and confidential/non-confidential materials.
  • Perform inspections, cleaning, and minor maintenance on vehicles and equipment, ensuring safe and reliable operation.
  • Complete record keeping, mileage logs, interoffice deliveries, and maintain housekeeping of assigned work areas.

What we're looking for:
  • Experience operating CDL Class vehicles (18,000 GVW or more) and related equipment such as forklifts, trucks, and buses.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, county, and city regulations for safe vehicle and equipment operation.
  • Ability to safely transport passengers and load/unload equipment on and off docks.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to work effectively with management, peers, clients, and the public.
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods, lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs., and perform frequent bending and twisting.
  • Strength and agility to handle tools, machinery, and various materials.
  • Ability to read, write, follow instructions, and perform heavy outdoor work in varying conditions.

Who should apply?
We are looking for professionals who have:
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • At least one year of experience as a Truck Driver 1 or equivalent.
  • A Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement.

Additional information:
  • Work schedule: 5:30 AM – 2:00 PM, Friday through Tuesday.
  • Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.
  • Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs.
