Keep Greensboro Moving — Deliver the Materials and Equipment That Keep Our Infrastructure Working

The City of Greensboro Water Resources Department is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Crew Member (Truck Driver) to transport materials, equipment, and safety resources to job sites throughout the City. This hands-on position plays an essential role in supporting field crews by keeping projects supplied, moving heavy equipment between locations, and helping ensure work sites are prepared and operated safely.

The Water Resources Department provides essential water and wastewater services that protect public health, support the community, and maintain Greensboro’s critical infrastructure. Field crews rely on skilled team members like our Truck Drivers to keep materials, equipment, and resources moving efficiently from one job site to the next.


 Compensation and Benefits:

Estimated Hiring Salary Range: $41,600.00 - $43,922.00   Full Salary Range: $42,233.00 - $59,734.00 Annually

About the Role

As a Crew Member (Truck Driver), you will:

  • Transport materials such as dirt, sand, rock, gravel, and cold-mix to and from job sites throughout Greensboro.
  • Operate various types of equipment and assist with field operations as needed.
  • Remove and haul excavated or stripped materials from job sites to designated landfill facilities.
  • Transport and move backhoes and other equipment from one job site to another, potentially several times each day.
  • Safely load, transport, and unload equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Apply proper work-zone safety practices and communicate potential safety concerns to the Crew Supervisor.
  • Identify and understand various types of safety equipment used in field operations, including shoring tubes, shoring boxes, and shields.
  • Transport and deliver required safety equipment to job sites based on the needs of the crew and work assignment.
  • Work closely with supervisors and field crews to coordinate equipment and material needs.
  • Maintain awareness of changing job-site conditions and take appropriate action to support safe operations.
  • Maintain a reliable means of contact, such as a home or cellular phone.
  • Serve as service-critical personnel and participate in an on-call rotation approximately every 4 to 6 weeks.
  • Be available to work overtime as needed to support operational and emergency needs.

This job is Non-Exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D
    •  "OR" an equivalency of 5 years of "directly related" work experience in the construction field.   
  • 1 year of experience in a construction environment/field
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License
  • Forklift License
